So...Art of Motion

There has been some controversy about the Art of Motion stop in boston recently, and whether or not they were sending the right message about parkour our or not, and if it was good or bad for the community. As being a competitor, I have a biased view, but hopefully I can try to cast my opinion in the best way possible.

AoM was made by people who not only do parkour, but live it like so many of us. Unlike the Barclaycard freerun championships, it was a Parkour AND Freerunning event, and… Continue

Self-Improvement

Don't you wish you could be doing Parkour in 3rd person? Seeing what you're doing wrong, fix it mid-stride/kong/vault? Well, we can't - yet. the next best thing is to carry around a video camera. When your training, video your efforts, take a look at them, and try to go by trial and error fixing them.

EXAMPLE:

I was doing a kong to precision that was a good distance, yet I couldn't seem to grab the extra few feet. A friend filming let me see it,…

fucking YES!

NEPK. I love you. This has been the greatest few months of my life. Specifically parkour, I've been DESTROYING goals of mine, things I would dream of doing, I'm doing with ease and I'm running out of shit to do. I cant believe how good my return has been (KNOCK ON WOOD). I've met so many new and interesting traceurs and freerunners, so many new ideas and styles. It's grown on me, and i've grown with it.

This has been a year of new starts for me - college, living on my own,…

Dont stop, get it get it!

Since my return to parkour, I have changed my training habits drastically. I aim for soft landings, fluid motions, and linking techniques together, but most importantly I dont stop. When I'm at a jam, it's warm up, and I train, train, and train. To me, this is the only way to drastically improve, by continually pushing yourself, always trying new things. When your tired from konging, practice precisions. When your tired of those, practice flips (or what have you). My point here is, I've been… Continue

Spring 2010 : Day 1 - Pain

We've all experience pain. Some of its a warning, some of it is a warning to stop, some is injury, some is almost pleasant, a gentle reminder of what you did wrong. Pain to me is gravity, nature, laws of physics saying NO to what I am doing - "no you cannot kong that far", "that drop is too big". Instead of seeing it as a barrier, I see it as motivation. Instead of saying I dont want to try to kong that in fear, I say I NEED to kong it to NOT get hurt. By this, I do not mean try the…

My son, almost 11 (but looks and acts older), is very interested in learning Parkour. Do you know if there is a group he could join? We live in Brookline, MA. He'd LOVE to come to the event on Sat, Nov 12 at BAEC, but I was told he has to be 18. Can you make an exception? Please let me know. Thanks!
