I was woundering if this has happened to anyone else but when you get a deep gash on your finger ther is thirty seconds where there is no blood and then it comes out purfuriously and you require stitches. Mine was with a pocket knife so it closed up and i didn't need stiches
With the trauma of the cut, the vessels swell up a little and constrict blood flow so it doesn't bleed immediately, and when it's a smooth, clean cut like that, even if it's deep you usually won't need stitches as long as you bandage it up nicely so that the flesh can heal back together. They only give you stitches as a precaution to stop the wound from opening and delaying healing
Pretty much. And you don't feel it much for a short period of time afterwards (Wonderfully useful period of time during which you can try to stabilize yourself).
Anyway, I've taken of significant amounts of skin from both of my thumbs (once with a hammer, the other time with a food mandolin. Oh, and then the time with the copper pipe taking a core out... Anyway, yes. Bleeding and pain wait a little bit.
