Hi guys--I just learend that Parkour exists, and find the discpline intriguing. I'm starting a novel, want my main character to be a traceuse. I'm looking to watch someone train, learn what I can so I can present Parkour honestly.
If you're in southern NH and willing to chat and share, please email me at: kathrynmackel@aol.com.
You can check me out at Amazon under Kathy Mackel and Kathryn Mackel. I publish with major NY houses. (I do not self-publish)
Sorry bud, I'd love to help you out, but I'm not from around there.
Though I can offer advice in doing a lot of reading; although jams are an important part of developing one's self as a traceur and building an eye for movement through one's environment, the parkour philosophy that you're probably interested in could be found through smart research. You could ask a tracuer, but their answer would most likely be a paraphrased version of what the bigger online communities have decided the definition to be. There's not too much variation between their definitions, though there are some debated ideas (competition, for example).
Also, grabbing yourself a nice cuppa tea and watching this video might answer a lot of questions:
Thanks. I'm partway through the movie, am enjoying it immensely. It's a huge help to explain the philosphy behind the discipline. And as an older athlete with one too many injuries, I appreciated the 65-year-old woman making her foray into Parkour.
I'm hoping to be invited to see first-hand. Waiting patiently for the Southern New Hampshirites to come along and wave me over.
If I knew anyone in the area I'd refer you to them, but I don't, sorry. Maybe finding the NH group and contacting people directly on their pages would work better? I can't say for sure. But I'm anxious to read a book featuring a traceur protagonist; can't wait!
I'm pretty sure that on the NEPK forum people from new hampshire have their own little thread of when and where they are hoping to post jams i wish i could be of more help
good luck with your book and ill look forward to reading it
The team and I train sometimes in hudson, nashua, manchester, etc. We're not traceuse though :P
We've been training for quite sometime and are educated in Parkour.
