If anyone can do a palm flip, I need some help. I was practicing the other day at this gym I go to. I can flip and rotate around, but as I backflip, I end up moving towards the wall. I don't know how to push myself away from the wall and still get enough momentum to get the backflip in.

Any help is appreciated.

Ok,

If you think you're already comfortable with your technique and can get the most out of your rotation, and your only problem is landing close to the wall ignore this.

This is what I did to perfect my palm spins, wall spins, whatever you want to call them...I started off round offs and cartwheels on the floor. After awhile of those, I put a cheese mat (a large mat thats slanted like a wedge) on the wall. Then I did a round off as close to the wall as I could. Then, I started doing roundoffs with one hand on the wall, until I progressed to both hands.

Anyway, if you're problem is landing to close to the wall, all you have to do is think about just punching off the wall (mostly with your shoulders) as you begin to rotate. You don't really need your hands on the wall that long anyway, so just work on doing a quick punch off the wall.

Alright cool, I'll try again when I go to the gym tomorrow.

So I went and it turns out when I actually go for it, I push the wall and flip at the same time. Bad idea. I end up backflipping while moving towards the wall to punch off of it. I can't get myself to wait until after I push off to flip, it's reflex. Any help with this?

Also, I'm landing this weird 360 running gainer on the trampoline. It isn't a corkscrew and it isn't anything I can find on youtube. Is it just a 360 gainer? I feel like I could land it on the ground if I practiced enough. I just want to know if there's a video of this somewhere.

Hmm...

It might be your hand placement? Where you put your hands in the wall depends alot on the rotation you get, if you put them straight up and down on the wall you're not going to get around as fast...but if you put one hand in front of the other on the wall you'd already be jumping into the rotation which helps you get around faster.

Sorry if i'm not that much of a help.

Well I was watching this video and the guy seems to push off and flip at the same time instead of jumping and flipping, and then pushing off in the middle. I end up flipping towards the wall and hitting my head. It's all about timing, I just can't get the timing right.

Any advice as to how to work up to the set and flip? This is my next project.

Alex, seems to me you are referring to a Palm SPIN on the wall also known as a Wall Spin.... when Roman is doing a Palm FLIP.... look it up they different... a lot different.

I'm working up to a Palm Flip... and I can already palm spin and wall spin.

Yeah, it's a tough move. Takes a lot of control to do. Or maybe I'm just bad at it. If you find any helpful tips, post em for me.

When I learned to palm flip, I used a trampoline, that was up against a wall. I would first jump and push off the wall to determine the amount of vertical height I was getting, and the distance I got from the push. Then I would try and work the flip by half back flipping.. onto my side. So purposely bailing onto my side every time. Just trying to get the feel, and become comfortable with the rotation. Once I did that several times and started becoming aware of where I am in the air at what time... Since I was on a trampoline, I just went for it. The tramp gave me a good amount of time in the air, and I made sure I pushed pretty hard to get a good distance from the wall. I drilled that for a while.. Then I was able to move to the concrete floor. I put a mat on the floor, busted my ass a few times trying to find the new timing without the tramp, but soon after 2 tries, I was able to add "Palm Flip" to my repetuar. :D

Also.. don't stand too far from the wall. You should be about arms length. I know Alex was talking about splitting your hands to help for a spin, this may work, but I don't do that. I'll keep my hands strait and just tuck harder.

Good Luck

I'll get a video of me attempting it next time I go to the gym which would be Tuesday night. And yo, can you do a corkscrew? I'm attempting it on a trampoline, but I don't know if I'm doing it right.
