Hi!

I've been negotiating with a local gym in Ashland, MA (about 20-30 minutes outside of Boston) for a few weeks, and they are very receptive to having traceurs (as well as just about anyone else who wants) to come in to train after-hours. I've been in to see the facility--which looks great--and the owners are great guys.

Here is the information I have so far:

Open to us after-hours (from 4:30pm onward)
$10 per head for a couple of hours
Facility is equipped with:
-Mats
-Foam pit complete with a 'runway' leading to it as well as a movable vault stand
-Flip harness: a harness with cables attached to it that allows you to practice flips and other aerial maneuvers without fear of landing too hard on the wrong part of your body
-Parallel bars of assorted height
-Padded obstacles: small ramps, assorted blocks; perhaps useful for various vaults
-Balance beams; probably useful for vaults and, well, balances
-Ropes: hanging vertically. Useful to learn how to climb ropes and maybe--if you're feeling spunky--transferring from a vault into a rope climb
-Walls: I haven't discussed this with them, but we may be able to use the walls of the facility for wall runs
-Trampolines
-Spring boards
-Plenty of space. This gym is pretty airy, and there's a sizable area that is unoccupied by equipment--which would be ideal for setting up a series of obstacles.

Basic ground rules would be:
-Everyone should be respectful of the owners, equipment, and each other. Treat the equipment as if it were your own and you can't afford to replace it if it breaks.
-Everyone must be safe. Realize that the gym is a way to practice when the weather is bad or when you want to push yourself a little further with less risk for injury, but you are not invincible even in a well-equipped gym. The owners do realize that there is an inherent risk in all such physical disciplines and seem prepared to accept that.

I think we're going to finalize things tomorrow. I'll let everyone know how it goes and if any of the above information changes.

Oh, and we'll apparently be the first group of people they'll have allowed to come in after-hours...which means we should have the gym mostly to ourselves.

So, who will come use this gym once everything is finalized?

Even though I'm a bit late to this party, I would love to know of any future events happening here. I'm TOTALLY in if anything happens here, whether it be a regular event or sporadic.

So, we might also get one of the owners--an ex-Olympic gymnast--in to train with us some day soon. In addition, there's an ex Cirque du Soleil member who's interested in training with us.

I'll try to get information and set up dates ASAP.
