Maine residents! Freerun / parkour enthusiests!

Hey everyone. I figure that I should go ahead and slap a post up here. I really am looking forward to meeting other traceurs/traceuses in Maine. So, feel free to post in this topic. We need to get a list of people who want to train, learn, and run free.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm brand new to parkour myself, so don't think I know everything! I'm just trying to get everyone in a single posting, so that we can plan things in the future.

Feel free to add me as a friend on livejournal... here's my latest post. http://rejor11.livejournal.com/1771.html

I found a partner to train with at the base gym, 5 days a week :) So I'm gonna be going at it pretty hardcore.

This coming saturday (21st) weather dependant, Ethan and I plan to head down to Portland to freerun, and find some spots where we can train. I figure Old Port would be a good spot to begin.

In the future, if we can start doing some regular jam sessions, we can make Portland, Bangor and Augusta as different areas to freerun. Maybe even head down to Boston once in a while.

Anyways, put your name here if you're interested to do something in the future!

I'm not even sure how many people there are on the Maine forums, so if we can find people that actually visit the forums, we can plan stuff in Portland and other towns. Right now I go to some Gymnastics place everyone Tuesday, Thursday, and sometimes Saturday for like two hours. Not as hardcore as 5 days a week.

I can't like get rides easily up to Portland and stuff, but I'd be able to come to some of them. I have spring break until next Sunday, so anything in that period of time, I should be able to do. Plus it's been warming up a lot.

Anyway, I'm here.

True enough. I've heard it's gonna be snowing pretty soon... so not sure if P-land will be good to go on the weekend or not.

On a completely off-topic side note, I installed my exhaust system and changed the oil today in my car. :o

It's going to snow on Wednesday and Thursday I believe, but I'm going down to Portland tomorrow to see a basketball game at like 5 p.m.

On a completely related side note, I landed my first backflip on flat ground yesterday. :D

ha, nice :) Maybe one of these days I'll try some tricks, but I don't think that's going to be much of a part of my parkour.

Back to training today for me! In a few hours anyway. :)

I hope to do a little bit of training in Portland (if it isn't too cold today), but tomorrow I'm going to go to the gym and get the backflips and wallspins down. Going to try them with shoes on, maybe they won't be harder.

Neato. What are wallspins? Are those where you're holding onto a wall, then you jump to the other wall while spinning?

Today we did only about a half hour of training... the gym we used was closed today, so Ethen and I just practiced rolls and did some pull ups and chin ups. Catwalk too.

Where do you go in Portland to freerun?

Wallspins are where you put your hands on the wall and basically rotate yourself over your hands. It's like a frontflip thing.

I don't know Portland very well, but I was going to go to the Expo Center tonight. I'm not feeling too well though.

Heya :)

Well, looks like my partner is bailing on me. Oh well :/

Still, I'm getting in an hour's worth of training each day. I'm glad I've been using mats to practice my rolls... I've figured out that I havne't been doing it correctly, since my right shoulder is killin me! lol. So I fixed my technique and it seems I can roll better starting on my left shoulder. After some more practice I can tell the difference. I'm gonna have to lay off the right shoulder for a while though.

Also got some wall climbs, practiced some balancing and some cat walks, and a few other things. Been doin this for the past few days now :)

Soo yah! This weather is really sucking! Not sure if I'll be able to make it to the gym tomorrow or not :/

I live in Bangor, which is about two hours away from Portland; I wouldn't be able to get rides down there that easily, especially on a regular basis. Is there anyone from the Bangor area here?

hey there bro. Well, I'm not close to bangor :P But I wouldn't mind driving up there to do a bit of training on the weekends, once this ice and snow starts goin away. How's the landscape up there? I've only been there once I think, and that was a year ago.

Bangor probably isn't the greatest place for parkour, although downtown might be better, I haven't really gone down there much for anything. Mostly all I've done is practice rolls and vaults at the nearby playground xD But I hear the university campus in Orono is a great place for parkour.

My sister used to go to Orono (now she's in Southern Portland), but anyway, we went there for a basketball game once. The campus is actually pretty nice, theres a decent amount of everything.
